Loren Champlin, who lives and works in Piscataquis County, Maine, captures the moment of his subjects with bold, vivid colors and passionate bold brushstrokes. His works capture the essence of the subject and as he puts it merges the subject and the artist into symphonic melodies capturing the spirit of the moment in expressionistic style. They express the passion, strife, and joy of living in Maine.

The works currently on display are from the 2009 Songs of the Son series and include "The Song of Spring," "The Song of Mischief," and "The Song of the Sea." These works are of a very personal and passionate nature of the artist and resonates the sounds of youth and family on canvas.

"Torrent of the Sea" and "the Music of New Orleans" will be shown in a collective exhibit in Chelsea at Agora Gallery, New York, NY Jan 30-Feb 19, 2009. The opening reception is Thurs, Feb 5, 2009 6-8 PM.

"D. Loren Champlin's works explore the textures of the human body in forms that move beyond naturalism to expressionist virtuosity. Through brushwork that is bold as well as detailed, Loren's portraits, landscapes and abstracts express a powerful and sensitive empathy for the human condition and our place in the universe. Like fellow Norwegian Edvard Munch, Loren's subjects are often surrounded by emotionally resonant eddies of color, light and shadow which inject his vivid paintings with personal whirlpools and emotional imprints; these swirls and eddies bespeak a whole world of emotions and metaphysical views that are visually arresting as well as psychologically insightful.

Loren's skilled and sensitive work in portraiture binds his subjects with the canvas and forms the holistic nature of his work. His subjects are indeed wrapped in their passions, yet they do not lose their humanity--they do, in fact, gain a universal appeal due to the delicate brushwork that is the base of their portraits." -- Agora Gallery

13 Sept, 08 News at 7, 8 Central - and yes, Professor, I am still alive

Amsterdam Whitney Gallery show Aug 1-26, 2008: The show at the Amsterdam Whitney was a success. The works were featured so that they were the first two works that were seen as you walked through the door. Imagine my surprise. You may see photos from the opening reception and a letter about the show from Ruthie Tucker the gallery curator by clicking here.

Cafepress Gift Store reopened: Cafepress has resolved many of their issues so a store has been opened 12 Sept, 2008 on a trial basis. Here you may purchase with images of my works on it mugs, t-shirts, basic prints, and other odds and ends at resonable prices. You may visit the store at [link] . If problems arise or it doesn't receive enough traffic, then it will be pulled so visit now while you can, it may be a rare opportunity, or not. . . who knows.

New Profiles added across the web Busy as a bee this month putting up profiles across the web. A brief synompsis of ones you can check out. 1) Brushspace.com This is an interesting invitation-only British site. Where it is juried, it has a pretty nice lineup of artwork. A fairly new site, but has proven to be a worthwhile one. 2) My Artspace.com Nice layout of the website, although I don't particularly like the Ads by Google part to the right of the page. It seems as tho these google ads are everywhere nowadays, I really miss the good ol days when google was just a really good search engine and not a big corporation. The ads are discretely placed compared to a lot of sights so not too imposing. Also I kind of wonder about the demographics of the people visiting that site - time will tell. Free tho so /shrug. 3) fine-art.com Nice site, a bit crowded tho and again with the google ads. They seem to be limited to the basic search pages, tho and the link above, I didn't notice any ads to speak of. You may also purchase works from this site using Google Checkout or Paypal which is kind of unique. 4) Artslant New York A very beautiful and well done sight featuring modern and contemporary works. The nice thing is that on the profile page a slide show appears, contact info, and a nice CV. 5) The Amsterdam Whitney Gallery placed The Coming of Winter on ArtNet a prestigious marketplace to auction and buy works.

Lighthouse of Maine Announcement: will appear in a Juried book the 'International Contemporary Masters 2009' editor/curator Despina Tunberg - to be published fall 2008 - more information to come at a later date. This book will be distributed to galleries, collectors, and museums and can be purchased at many major retailers when it comes out such as Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, etc.

EBSQ: Once again discontinuing my EBSQ affiliation for a myriad of reasons. Therefore, new works and updates to this site will not be performed.

Kennebec Valley Art Association I have decided to join the Kennebec Valley Art Association (KVAA) as I have found many friends there and forsee potential showing opportunities in the Augusta, Maine area. There are two group member shows there a year where I can place a couple small works as well as bins for prints which I intend on utilizing. The KVAA is a small arts organization based in Augusta, Maine and runs the Harlow Gallery in the Old Town district. Its members are comprised of artists in all stages of artistic development as well as patrons.

Winter is Coming, Eeeks! The nights are getting colder, the wind is picking up, and the snow should start to fly in a couple of weeks. . . Well, where we still need a new roof and heating will be astronomical this year, now would be a great time to place an offer on a painting you've been itching to buy. Granted if it is a rediculously low offer I wouldn't accept it, but you never know. Place your bids now lol.
